New Zealand tenor of Samoan origin Pene Pati has for several years been regarded as one of the brightest stars in the opera world. Critics have hailed him as “the Samoan Luciano Pavarotti,” a singer who has mastered the authentic bel canto style and possesses a voice that comes along only once in many years. Prague audiences have already had two opportunities to encounter this exceptionally charismatic artist, at concerts presented by Nachtigall Artists in January 2023 and March 2024.

In the recently concluded 2025/26 season, Pene Pati expanded his already vast repertoire with the title role in Les contes d’Hoffmann at the Berlin State Opera. He also appeared as Massenet’s Werther at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, Tito in Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito at the Zurich Opera House, and as Gounod’s Faust at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, in addition to giving numerous concerts and recitals.

Next season, he will return to the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he made his debut in January 2025 as the Duke of Mantua in Verdi’s Rigoletto. This time, he is set to perform the role of Rodolfo in Franco Zeffirelli’s legendary production of Puccini’s La bohème.

Joining Pene Pati will be his wife, the outstanding soprano Amina Edris, a native of Cairo who already captivated Prague audiences during the tenor’s debut appearance in the Czech capital. The New York Times praised her “beguiling sensitivity, unfailing accuracy and a tone of dark steeliness.” Over the course of her career, she has built an exceptionally wide-ranging repertoire spanning from Baroque music to world premieres of contemporary works, with the great heroines of French and Italian opera forming the core of her artistic identity.

The 2025/26 season brought Amina Edris a number of important debuts. At the Opéra-Comique in Paris, under the baton of Pierre Dumoussaud, she performed all four female heroines in Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann. This was followed by debuts at the Berlin State Opera and the Opéra National de Lyon as Antonia in the same work. At Dresden’s Semperoper, she made her house debut as Juliette in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, one of her signature roles. She also returned to the Paris National Opera as Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen and, in April 2026, made a highly successful debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where she appeared as Musetta in Puccini’s La bohème.

In Prague, the two artists will be accompanied by Prague Philharmonia under the baton of Pierre Dumoussaud, Music Director of the Rouen Opera.
